Horrible Instructions; Pieces don’t look like photos
After an hour, I realized using a match would be easier and chucked this thing. The instructions are horrible and the bow in the photos look nothing like the cheap piece of wood I got. It’s not even worth the time to return it.

Learn on this…now…not when you actually need it.
Got this to learn and perfect my fire bow skills. Correction: my non-existant fire bow skills. I figured since I’m a dude and I’m used to the rapid use of my arm moving in a back and forth motion thst I’d be abke to start a simple fire. I was wrong and now I’m tired. I know it works because there’s smoke… but no Amber’s yet and I’m sure its just me. Not going to count against a proven fire system because I lack the skill to use it properly. Just gonna have to keep trying. In the end, at the very least, ill get stronger and faster at other rapid, back and forth motions.

Keeps kids busy and it works
Gifted to family member to take camping with kids (9 and 6). This kept them busy for long stretches, multiple uses over a week long camping trip and was the ‘hit’ of the week – even with the parents. Keep in mind, it does work so a fire is intended to be the final outcome. “Parent supervision, at least minimal is highly recommended”. – Smokey T. Bear

Great product
The Bowdrill kit from PSKOOK is a neat little way to learn and or practice primitive friction fire making. It is great for learning and teaching the basic skills needed for this task. The many reviews I’ve seen are usually in agreement with me on this. The very few negative reviews I’ve seen are related to lack of included instructions. I have attached an electronic copy of the instructions for any who may need to use them.I also want to mention that this and any other PSKOOK product is supported by great customer service. They are quick to respond to each and every customer. If you have any questions about this bow drill kit or any of their other products contact them and you’ll receive immediate response. I have been in contact with them over the last few months and I assure you they are great to work with and you’ll like their products. You can see my reviews of their products as I do them on Mosher Ridge KY on Facebook.

Great teaching tool.
I got a couple of these to introduce my young sons (ages 5 and 7) to the concept of friction fire. I really like that the bow is attached to the spindle, so it removes the frustration of having the spindle fly away from the bow like a regular bow drill. I think this is a great teaching tool for those unfamiliar with friction fire as it eases the learning process, especially for younger users. We got to practice our form, and learn the concept, which was the goal. While they weren’t able to get an ember during their first attempts they did learn some things, and most importantly, they didn’t get frustrated and had FUN! We will continue to refine our techniques with this kit until they are able to get an ember and start a fire, and then we will progress to a regular field crafted kit. Overall, I think this is great way to teach newcomers, and it is also a great way to share and spend time with your kids.

Extremely entertaining
Bought this for our 10 year old outdoor enthusiast. We’ve never tried a bowdrill but have seen them used so often on TV that when I came across this in Amazon I knew I had to buy it! Decent price for what it is. Good directions. Endless drunken attempts lol. We brought it with us to family Christmas dinner. After our ten year old tired out from trying EVERY adult ALL night kept giving it a go LOL…It really is harder than it looks, no one has managed to make a fire with it yet but we’re still trying!! Entertainment value was priceless. Fun gift for older kids or adults.

Great for a starter kit
I recently began my survival journey and wanted to learn how to use a bow drill. This kit was easy to learn on but the rope did break on my 2nd fire try. Luckily the rope broke close enough to the end for me to retie it and keep using.

I love the item but the top came off and will not stay on. I guess you will have to carefully glue it back on so you do not get any glue into the bearings

It works
It will definitely teach you something about rubning two sticks together. It will teach uou to buy a lighter or a ferro rod. Its tough to build a fire this does make it possible and a hell of a lot easier than two sticks but even with this its a different technique than two sticks. So i would learn them all.

Perfect starter bow drill!
My husband has spent the last week making his first bow drill with little success so far. I ordered this yesterday and received it today. Made my first fire 2 minutes later. Lol.I’m left handed and had no problem.I used the trick where you place the nest under the notch so that the cole fell right in to the nest. It worked great!

Never did quite make it work
I am sure if an individual has the time to make this work – they will get it. By the time I gave up it was dark, and I had to resort to using a flint and steel, but overall quality is good. The downside is when you turn the drill upside down in the dark – the pieces go flying everywhere and are hard to find.

Love the Design
Never did get a fire started but did build up endurance in my arm! I think this is a great tool for learning bow drill skills but I drilled right through every single spot on the fire board and lost the bearings every time I used it. Ended up using flat washers in their place. Was fun tho! I’m on my second fire board now lol. One of these days….

Will break within 5 minutes
We ordered two of these items for our boys to use on a camping trip, and the string on both of them broke within a few minutes. We were disappointed. I’d recommend spending a little money for a better product.Update: the seller reached out immediately to ask how they could make it better. They issued a full refund quickly. Maybe we just received a couple bad pieces. Anyhow, I appreciate their customer service and desire to make it right so updating to four stars.

Maybe I was just inexperienced with this
So it was a great idea. Taking it out of the box was a little confusing mine didn’t come with instructions or anything on how to set it up. I tried while I was camping and it wasn’t a success. It was a little hard to set up and to actually get, it moving and going so this wasn’t for me but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad product like I said, maybe I’m just a little inexperienced with this. It’s easier for me to just have a lighter in my pocket when camping or even a flint, I find those much easier to use Have experience with this I say give it a shot and see if you can do it

Practical design
Great product. I’ve made my own in the Philippines 🇵🇭. The only issue was a missing washer. Should come with a washer on top of the bearings and a second washer on the bottom of the bearings. To minimize wear & tear against the wood. I have emailed the maker. We will see what the PSKOOK response is like. Fingers crossed.

Lotsa smoke, zero embers
I bought this for the kids to use to make a fire on our camping trip. They burned through to the bottom of three of the starting holes on the fire board without getting an ember. Then one by one each adult tried to get an ember. It became a mission to see who could get it to work. In total 9 holes were bored through without one ember before we started the fire with a lighter. Lotsa smoke but that was it. Maybe they should sell an optional match stick for an additional dollar. The good news is after we started a fire with a lighter the bow drill made good tinder as we threw it in the fire and it burned nicely.

Easy introduction to bow drill
Hearth board snapped on second or third use, but was easy to repair with some glue.Mechanism is easy to use, surprisingly fast to get smoke and a decent ember. Still requires learning how to know if the right kind of punk is forming, if the right amount has accumulated to make an ember, and how to carefully move the hearth away and let the ember breathe. The product could be very good with more explanation of technique. The cap falls off quite a bit if not extra careful, which can get dirt into the bearings and washers. I like the friction free holder a lot, but somebody needs to redesign it to keep from losing the parts or getting them dirty. The English translation of the instructions are a little awkward, which is more amusing than it is a problem. This is a good way to teach someone how bow drills work, and how much a well crafted shaft, bow and holder have a HUGE impact on how easy it is to start a fire. Ordinarily the learning curve on bow drills is high because of those factors, leading people to give up. This product eliminates that barrier. That said, I would not suggest this product as a survival tool. It is a survival learning tool. For any situation where one really needed a bow drill this product is too bulky with too many moving parts. If one could accommodate this product in the gear, then one could bring a faro rod or matches or anything else that is much easier to start a fire with.

The bearing system alone is worth the cost
Reminiscing of my time in the BOY Scouts of America, I decided to purchase this so that I can teach my kids this crucial skill. Upon first use I was able to get an ember and start up a fire. The most impressive part of this is the bearing system. If you use this spindle up and needed a new one, it would take just as much time to taper the bearing block end of the spindle and make a bearing block as it would to just whittle the bearing block end to accept this bearing system. There is absolutely NO heat generation with this bearing system! The only end that makes heat is the end you need to make heat. The only issue I have with this is that the wood is very soft (this is good for beginners because it makes it easy to make an ember), however, for those who are not beginners this wears down pretty quick. Also, the ember generating end of the spindle is tapered too narrow. This can literally make it into a drill with it being so narrow. Now that mine has worn down to just the beginning of the taper it is wearing down much slower. For the beginner I cannot recommend this enough, it is an easy way to learn the basics of bow and drill fire making. For the expert I still recommend this for the bearing system, it’s genius and you can use it on your own spindles! The design is well thought out as I have made three of these and have successfully made fires with all of them using this as a template (1″ dowel, drill, small sign stake, some whittling, and para-cord).

This Bow Drill was simple enough my 6 yr old grandson figured it out.
My 6 year old grandson ask for this for Christmas. I was so amazed he wanted it I got it for him. He is a Bear Grylls fan and loves the outdoor and camping. It’s rare these days but he is the last of a dying breed. I love the fact he doesn’t have a lot of use for video games. The drill was descent quality it took me a little bit to figure out the proper downward pressure because the instruction could have been written better. Initially us a lot of pressure and as you see smoke ease up until you see the ember then dump it on the lint to start the fire, We built a fire Christmas night using it. This was a good starter for my grandson I recommend it.

Good product… works as expected
It works as expected and as shown in the video. Definitely takes a good amount of effort but does work. The top assembly with the washer/bearings fall off easily but not a big issue… just annoying when trying to position things. Also the strings were a bit tangled and required some messing with to straighten out. Overall, it’s a neat product… I always wanted to try making a fire this way but didn’t want to have to make the actual parts with twig and string.

Worked perfectly multiple times
Taught my 8 & 6 yr old, had them both work the drill while I pushed down and we busted a coal on the first try. They had a blast and it was a great way to learn about friction fire. Bearing system was perfect and smooth, fire board with notcheds worked perfectly, as did the actual bow/string.I was very pleased and highly recommend it for teaching friction fire.

Hard to use, unable to actually start fire.
It was hard to use, hard to set up, and we had a hard time getting a fire started. Of course, these bow drills are always hard to get a fire started with (there’s a reason flint & steel was devised!).Overall, it’s a good demonstration for kids, but not something you’d actually want to rely on.

Great Deal!
So I am starting my own survival bag and the first thing I wanted to get was a bow drill kit or make one. I tried to make one it did work but it took a lot of effort to get it to work. This kit started up about 15sec after I started. I feel as though the friction board is going to break quite easy. I wished they would have given us two friction boards. For the price though I have no arguments. I also bought a small packet of bearing grease just to help reduce friction a little. The package was a nice arrangement. The instructions were clear as well. Because the cords were a little tangled and I decided to untie them and put them back on my self. The only reason I gave this item four stars is because I feel the friction board is flimsy and it will not last. I hope that I am wrong. Time will tell.

Good gift for Scouts!
First off, the build is a bit cheap, but this will work well, especially for demonstration purposes and for those learning before they make their own gear. It’s clear these are mass-produced.I’m a little worried about the quality of the bearing that allows the spindle to spin inside the handle, but I think if you’re careful it’ll hold up.Otherwise, this is a unique design that I recommend. I’ve actually duplicated it at home with basic lumber scraps, other dry wood, and some paracord.

Great practice kit.
This practice bow drill works great. I was able to get a fire started with it right out of the box. I’ll definitely practice more with it. I only ask PSKOOK to include the type of wood used for the drill and base board in the instructions.

Great demo model
It worked right out of the box; no batteries required. We did get smoke and glowing embers within 5 minutes of opening the box. A 7 year old complained that “Wild People” (not my wording, 7 year olds don’t care about p.c.) do not have ball bearings. I explained that a grease soaked leather disk as bearing may also have done the job. I just made that up. Is this absolutely ridiculous?I think that this is a great demonstration of making fire. Said 7 year old keeps inventing new methods to make fire by friction now.

I expected it to be worse!
My husband loves it! He had the living room smelling like a campfire within minutes of receiving it as a christmas gift. He did say something about having to push down on the top of the spindle. It spins fast enough, but makes the coal faster with some downforce added. At time of purchase, I figured it’d be a cheap novelty, and more useful as a model for him to make one on his own. We’re both pleasantly surprised.

Fun tool for teaching
Arrived quickly. My 11 year old son took an immediate interest. Part was missing but customer service is top notch and very responsive. Just pending missing part, which is shipping from Amazon. Looking forward to getting it to work.

Unique gift!
This was a great gift for my son to try primitive skills. It is definitely difficult and you have to stay focused but it does work! Great for nature/camp loving kids to hone their skills or adults who want to try. I even enjoyed making fire! Very unique gift!

Fun gift
I got 2 and gave one away as a gift. I made fire on my first try. Prove you are a man by showing your friends that you can rub sticks together and make fire.

Perfect for beginners
I will keep this short and simple. This is perfect for practice with handling an ember. Forming an ember took less than a minute, maybe 30 seconds. The type of wood did all the work with minimum effort. The tinder provided was perfect and I only had to use a small amount. No coal catcher was provided but I used a small piece of bark from my firewood and had no problem. I was able to make a fire on my first attempt. I was just going to see how it worked and did not have my camera on but I will post a video of my second attempt later. LOVED THE STARTER KIT!

Very easy to use and great engineering to make the most out of very little energy put in.
I ordered this to see how good of a product it was. This was sent in a very timely manner and arrived very quickly, with great packaging. It was very easy to use with the spindle on top of the handle which eliminates the need for a rock or harder piece of wood on top. The paracord around it makes it easier to spin fast, which inturn uses less energy to make an ember. It takes less than a few minutes to get the fire started even for a novice or beginner. It’s designed in a way, and easy enough for a child to use properly. Will be purchasing again, and would recommended to anyone.

Fire making fun for the whole family!
Immediately apon opening the box I was instantly impressed with the construction. After further examination of the bow drill I felt like it would last for a long time! The big selling point was that it was a two player one that allows your kids to join in on the fun.Ok, so I gave it a spin with my kids and it works as advertised and includes everything needed to produce primitive fire, with little effort! The kit is responsibly priced, especially since it’s incredibly hard to find the right wood and dryness to try and make one on your own. I give it two thumbs up!
