    Good feel and weight

    Good weight and construction. Nice and dense. Wood is good quality and feels good in the hand. Head has a rustic look and feel to the metal. Leather sheath and holster feel very high quality and look very good. I wore it out today in public and was very comfortable especially with the blade turned toward my back. It also smells like you would hope, like leather, wood, and iron. I hacked apart a large fallen branch from my yard to get a feel for it’s functionality. It cuts very well and appears to hold its edge. I’ve been hunting for a good hatchet for some time and this one fits the bill.

    I’ve been eyeing it for weeks!

    Update 1/9/2023I haven’t even used the axe once and it seems the axe head got loose from the handle just sitting on my shelf.I’m not one to buy axes online because it’s always best to go in store and hand select it but it met my expectations perfectly!- it came sharp just needed a little stropping- the head was on straight- The wedge is seated properly (minor imperfection where some glue was left on the cheek of the head)- the handle isn’t covered in varnish and ready to go- the grain of the handle is perfectly straight all the way up! ( I was really happy about this one)- it came with a sheath and belt holster which is a nice plus, considering most wouldn’t even consider including them.overall the quality and craftsmanship is excellent for the price!

    Excellent small axe with one flaw

    I love the size and weight of this hatchet. The shape, finish and quality of the handle is very good. Great shape for retention in hand with no hot spot. Very comfortable. The axe head’s eye is centered and the thin blade is profiled for carving and general camp chores. It is very sharp.There is one strange flaw: when assembling this piece, someone forgot to put in the wedge. I’ll have to finish this so I’m a little bummed out and subtracting a star for the factory failure.

    Great edge and light weight!

    The handle that came with it was just fine for a carving hatchet, but I bought this to be a light weight woods hatchet. The first thing I did was remove the 12″ handle it came with and put my home made 19″ ash handle on it. Now this thing is a high quality work horse capable of felling, limbing, splitting, and carving. And it only weighs a pound and a half!

    Loose Axe Head

    This is a very nice small hatchet that feels wonderful in the hand. It came very sharp with a simple but very nice leather sheath and leather belt loop holster. The major issue I have with it, is that it arrived with a loose head on the handle without having been used at all. Other than this problem, this seems to be a really nice hatchet. Unfortunately, I will probably have to return this one.**Edit: 12/27/22**After leaving my review, the hatchet company reached out to me regarding my displeasure. They were so great to work with! I was sent a new hatchet after verifying a couple of things. That is unbelievable customer service and I couldn’t have asked for anything more!! Do not hesitate to order from them!! My thanks to them. I amended to rating to 5 stars!

    I had issues with the comparison to the description; namely the sharpness, straightness of the blade, and the ability to do the precision work I was looking for.Beaver Craft quickly addressed my problem and just as quick, replaced the tool.The new tool was carefully selected to address my issues. It came fast, and is what I was hoping for when I picked it. I’m pretty close to my tools, and picky about them, as I carry them every day. Every now and then, we all come up a little short, but I’m very pleased with the quick attention and response here. I am happy, now, with the purchase, and consider it a bargain with a slight delay. I thank them for their good customer service and effort to maintain a high standard.

    A good cheap axe.

    Definately not a Gransfors, but it is acceptable. I will have to make a handle for it, because Im used to having a swell where the lanyard hole is. As it is it tapers down too narrow for me. That said, I think most who want an axe this size will be happy with their purchase. Makes a great gift too.

    Size and weight are good for crafting. Imperfections in the axe head knocked it down for me.Update: After my review, the supplier reached out directly to correct the issue. The handle was better visually and the axe head was slightly better. I’d give a 4.5 star based on customer service/quality.

    Very nice, more heavy than I want it to be.

    This looks stylish as well as being able to chop wood very well. It does come in sharp as well as two leather straps (one for blade and another for the belt handle). I got this for my hike camping trips since carrying wood isn’t ideal. However, the axe itself isn’t ideal as well since I can use fallen sticks and such instead. It is just more weight that I need to carry. If you are doing some car camping then this would be a must have. With some proper gloves you won’t be getting any blisters by using this axe.

    Arrived quickly, good ax

    Purchased a carving ax for chopping decoys. Arrived sharp and ready to use. Balance and size are better and more compact than my Granfors bruks carving ax, and it will work better for finer tasks. Cannot comment on how well it holds an edge or other long term use observations cause I have only had it a few weeks.

    Awesome little hatchet.

    Took this thing on a camping trip recently. Our spot had a good amount of deadfall, so I got to chopping with my Beavercraft hatchet. Let’s just say it’s bite is way bigger than it’s bark. Also carved a spoon with it. Highly recommend!

    Serious Hatchet, Serious Value

    I’m repeatedly impressed with the value of Beavercraft products, and this carving axe is no exception!Where else will you find a forged hatchet for this price? Nowhere that I know of! Now, as you can see in the pictures modified it to suit my particular needs. I gave the edge a slight curve and drew the bevels out finer to accommodate my style of cutting. Easily done even by an amateur who is patient and observant. Otherwise any competent bladesmith or tool finisher should be able to help you.Out of the box the blade is sharp enough to tackle chopping duty, but remember this is a carving axe not a felling axe! It will need to have the edge refined and well sharpened to act well as a carving tool. It takes a razor edge, and appears to be well tempered.The handle is well finished. I would have preferred a meatier handle but that’s a matter of preference; easily resolved when I decide to rehandle it. I might suggest charing the handle over a charcoal fire and finishing it with straight linseed oil for a better grip.Again, a bargain at the price offered.

    Amazing carving axe at a fantastic price

    What a beautiful tool this is! It’s well packaged and arrives sharp straight out of the box. The sheath fits well around the blade. I haven’t used the belt loop yet but the stitching and workmanship look great.The axe itself is nicely balanced and has a good heft to it, without being too heavy to use for a long period of time. I like the variety of grips available on the handle so I can keep the axe under control based on what I’m doing.I’ve been impressed with everything I’ve gotten from Beavercraft over my time learning to carve, but adding this axe to my tool cabinet is easily the highlight of my summer!

    Blade was put on handle crooked.

    Poor quality control on this one. The blade is not lined up with the handle. That was after I was delivered an empty package and had to wait for this one. This one’s going back for a return.Beavercraft reached out to me after this review, and their customer service is top notch. Buy we confidence knowing they will resolve any issue you have quickly. The staff is super friendly and responds to correspondence quickly.

    Best hatchet for the money

    Great little hatchet extremely sharp you can shave with it chopped down several small trees with ease the only bad thing is the hatchet cover is crap they use one thread that’s super small and it split the first time wearing it the holster is pretty good but the leather is really thin

    Very well made ace

    We bought this as a 13th birthday present for our son. We have other beaver craft products and love their craftsmanship. This axe is no exception. Well made, I except it to last well into his adulthood. The leather is thick and good quality, as is the steel and the wood handle. There is no leather thong through the handle- though there is a hole and we can string one.

    Great little hatchet but…

    So this is my second one, my first one went on a few camping trips and quite a few hikes with me. Came razor sharp and feels great in the hand. The first one fell out of its holder and was lost (mostly my fault). Had the second one for a day and took it on a short 4 mile hike and when I got home I noticed the blade guard had fallen off. Don’t know if it was a defective snap on it or what. I’ll be looking for a better holder and blade guard.

    Very fine Hatchet

    I wanted a hatchet for camping and putchased an Estwing hatchet, and was very dissapointed on pretty much everything. I thought i recieved a used product but looking at the reviews everyone had the same scratches and chipped hatchet.This hatchet on the other hand looks amazing and looks like it was made by someone who does not hate life. It shipped surprisingly fast (1 day) for me, so I dont know if this really comes from Ukraine, but either way it is a nice hatchet and sharp at that. Feels very durable and the included leather is a nice touch. The shape of the metal is ideal for a hatchet but it could be a little bit bigger.

    You see the price right? its not always about the function but the appearance.

    i purchased this axe as a gift/award for someone and as you can see, it has been modified…dont expect to have thors hammer for an axe. however for $10 axe, this thing is worth itSHARPNESS- 6.5/10weight – Great for handlingBalance – 5/10handle quality – 6/10does it get the job done…YES. Is the sheath and holder high quality…surprisingly enough…yes.its a great axe for engraving and modifying as you can see by the image.

    Beautiful hatchet

    This thing is almost too nice to use on cutting wood. Made in Ukraine, hopefully from Russian tanks. Nice wood handle with a flared end. The only issue may be that the belt loop looks a little small, I don’t know is a 1.5″ belt will work with it.

    The Blade is sharp and the grip is very good.

    Rust on the blade when it arrived. A little bit of oil would have reduced that possibility. Otherwise the axe is excellent.

    Sweet little Ukranian axe!

    Nice little chopper/wood shaver. I looked at many different compact axes and settled on this one because of the positive reviews, hand forged head, made in Ukraine, included leather holster and blade cover, and I love the name Beavercraft.     Thoroughly enjoy!

    Not sure how well it will hold up but it appears to be very well made. I mainly bought it because I simply liked the look and style and I really liked the belt loop easy draw feature. Make sure to oil the steel to prevent rusting – as one would expect with any forged tool. Neatsfoot oil takes care of the entire unit – steel, wood and leather

    Almost perfect.

    I ordered this little axe for roughing out spoons, kuksas, and the like. It has enough heft without being heavy. The bevel is set so it bites and not deflects. It is hung tighr on a nice ash handle. As a bonus it is a nice looking little axe. Like I said almost perfect.

    Good craftsmanship

    This is my first carving hatchet so I don’t have a lot of experience. All I can say is this thing is sharp out the box and all you need to do to keep it sharp is strop it properly. I like the weight, look , and effectiveness of this tool.

    Strong for the money

    Handle is oddly comfortable. Weight is very controllable for multiple tasks, almost dont need a knife. Blade material is very tough and strong, once you get the correct blade angle. This is a Eutopean company, they grind the blades for softwoods, if thats all your going to chop with it then dont change anything, but i also ise it for Oak and Maple and the blade rolls after a bit. Its not a design flaw, its grind has a purpose in Europe. For the price and 10 minutes of blade work on the grind stone, you will have a tool you are going to love for anything you decide to dig in to. Enjoy it!

    Very sharp out of the box, put it on my leather strop after unboxing and it only took 10 passes to get it to shave my arm hair. Very sturdy construction with excellent fit on the leather mask and holster! Thank you Beaver Craft!

    Blade Sharpness

    Great blade. Bought it for a friend and the handle is awesome. My friend loves it but one thing, we both said, not sharp enough. Definitely not “razor” sharp. But enough to chop wood, definitely.

    Beavercraft made things right

    The first hatchet I received had chips in the so they sent me another one along with the deluxe carving kit plus 4 spoon blanks, good customer service for sure, the tools are not that sharp, they did require some honing. For the price their pretty good tools, I’ve paid more for less quality from Amazon that’s for sure.

    Polished, sharp, and perfectly balanced.

    This carving hatchet exceeded my expectations, and is worth more than I paid for it. The blade arrived polished, and the edge only required about 2 minutes on a strop to achieve paper slicing sharpness. It was so easy to rough out some spoons from white pine and then hard maple! I like to choke up with my hand just under the head and the balance gives me complete control. The handle is comfortable to hold sturdy. I love the matching sheath and belt loop. Both are very well made and if I don’t lose them will last longer than my lifetime. This is the kind of tool that reminds me why I love woodworking. BeaverCraft products have never disappointed me, and this one is a standout.k

    Perfect axe for bushcraft type things

    Not to big not to small nice hefty weight super sharp. Great for gardening and campfire.made in the Ukraine. Finally something made somewhere other then Chinese. Although there knifes are awesome.
