Dull knives
Knives arrived very dull, especially the hook knife. If you’re aiming to make wood chips and/or cut your hand open, then they’ll do the job just fine, but actual art? Nope, not unless you’re willing to buy a whetstone or send it off to someone else to sharpen them for you. The amount of carving wood included was kind of the only upside, that’s one less thing I need to go out and buy.

No Directions!
I looked up carving kits for beginners. I read good reviews on this one and liked that it came with the wood. It came in today and everything is great except their are NO INSTRUCTIONS. For someone who wants to get started in carving, this wouldn’t be what you want to purchase. Find another product. There is no names for the tools. This is a gift for a boy and honestly i will now have to find and print out stuff myself because he won’t even know what to do with it.

Awesome!
Ordered this for my 12 year old step son as an alternative to technology. The first one was a helicopter and it was “alright” to him but the second one was a marshmallow catapult and he absolutely loved it. He enjoys doing it all by himself and it’s nice to hear him using actual tools instead of a stupid controller to a game.

My son (9) has been into whittling and I wanted to get him the correct tools so we don’t end up in the ER. I got him a book to go along with this so we’ll see what he comes up with. I’ll post pictures if he makes something recognizable.

Gloves are useless
I put too much faith in the “cut resistant” gloves. Was whittling for 30 minutes and cut myself, requiring 3 stitches. Why include the gloves at all?

Okay choice
I bought 2 of these for my kids on a trip we took and I think I used them more than they did. These tools are sharp right away but I found myself constantly resharpening them. The gloves could be a little more durable especially for beginners. I slipped a few times and ended up stabbing myself b/c it went through the gloves. But there were a few other times they didn’t cut me. I. Not so sure the hook tool was really for beginners. I think you really need a vice to use it. Other then that okay purchase.

Definitely worth for beginners
I hadn’t done anything with woodworking for years and I took off with this. I would’ve liked a little more wood but it’s alright, you can always buy more. The gloves are slice proof, but not stab proof. I found that out the hard way

What’s this for again?
This product seems to be designed to be sold under a variety of categories, this resulting in a mediocre product. I basically only use the cut gloves and knives, but if I ever start working with other mediums I might find a need for the rest of the kit.

Good but…
Although I have no complaints please please please of this is for a beginner who is young please have them under adult supervision the knives are extremely sharp I ended up stabbing my self on accident and it resulted in a deep cut

Good for beginners, but if you’re serious, get a bigger set
This was my first ever set of whittling knives, and for that I must say they’re a great introduction to the hobby. But once you get past the very basics of whittling, you really have to get yourself a set with more tools, at the very least something a little better suited for carving details. Don’t get me wrong, you can make amazing things with this set, but I personally would recommend that you only get this set as a beginners set to teach yourself how to do wood whittling.

Impressive starter set!
I am a female in my 70’s and I have joined a wood carving club in order to learn the craft. I have never done wood carving before so I wanted an affordable starter set to begin. This set was better than I thought it would be. The knifes are sharp and the bass wood is soft and easy to carve. I liked that it comes in a kit that I can put in my bag easily. Because of the affordable price, I felt it wouldn’t be very good, but even my instructors were impressed. Until you want to invest in more professional tools, these tools work great and are worth the money.

Sharpen first, even though you don’t need to.
These do come very sharp out of the box, and as a new whittler I didn’t realize how much of an even EASIER time I’d have using them after sharpening (with the stroop that comes in this kit). I watched some YouTube vids before doing that, and then it was like cutting through butter. My only wish is that the blocks came with some etched designs too, as it can be hard to choose what to start with and a little daunting wondering if you’re drawing something on correctly, yourself.

I was so excited to get this little kit and I have to say that it is totally with the price. The wood cuts very easily, and gloves come in handy! Definitely use a glove on the hand you are holding the wood in because these knives are sharp baby!If you’re new to the craft like me and want to dip your toes in before spending hundreds on good knives and such please get this!

haven’t used the product yet, i’m sure it great but disappointed that it came in a clear package. this was supposed to be a present for my husband and he got it from outside. amazon maybe only do cardboard like you usually do?! also it was delivered to the wrong address. just a little frustrated but i’m sure it’s a great product

Decent quality
Tools are of decent quality and sharp. Gloves are a medium, can’t cut through them. Wood seems to be maple, not basswood. Which is harder to carve.Great kit for beginners.

Awesome set, SHARP KNIVES!
These knives cut through the wood like butter! Be careful when unrolling for the first time; I pricked my finger because one of the knives had cut through the protective plastic cover 😂 10/10 recommend! Great starter set. The knives felt very comfortable to use, my hands didn’t get fatigued like I thought they might.

This was for my grandson’s birthday. He recently started widdling pieces of wood, after seeing some wood pieces on vacation. the pocket knife and wood type he was using was very difficult to work with, and i was concerned. We looked on Amazon, and found the perfect beginners set, and he is so happy with it.

Great little starter set
Great starter set for someone who is interested but not sure if they want to go all in on more expensive tools. Got one for my grandson and one for myself. I haven’t received much feedback from him yet but he was super excited to get it and try it out. As for myself, I liked the set. Definitely not the best tools but, again, this is a starter set and came with everything needed to see if it’s something you’d like to spend more time on. I’d recommend.

Hey! This is a great little set for someone wanting to see if it’s fun enough to try it while long enough to keep gaining skill. And it’s an honest cost, bang-for-your-buck, presentable/giftable kit. The company tactfully considers that this may not be anything but a delightfully whimsical kit enjoyed to its completion and nothing more. be a continued endeavor for only time the person does this type of craft again, and in making it sweet. And yet, nice enough to come along with someone that tries this and wants to try their hand at a few other pieces of wood beyond the kit, but not ready to upgrade or buy into more than what’s in the kit. Seems win-win!

Wood splits
I’m a beginner so Take my review with a grain of salt.I feel as though the wood splits. It breaks and takes more than you cut.Maybe it’s the knife, maybe it’s the wood? Maybe it’s me. LolThe first piece of wood was amazing, I was able to cut layers precisely. The second piece of wood I couldn’t. The knife feels duller after about an hour of work. Maybe I’m cutting wrong so it makes it duller? Who knows.The gloves are nice

This is a very nice set. (the hook tool is only sharpened on one side so you need to pull it towards you with your right hand … not good, pushing away would be better). Still, even without the hook tool, this is a very nice set.

The quality of this kit was better than I expected. Nothing feels cheap: all of the carving tools are really nice, extremely sturdy, and should last for quite some time. The way they were packaged and the gloves that came with it all seemed like you were getting something nice. Also came with several blocks of wood to get started.

BEWARE!! These gloves will not stop you from cutting yourself!!

Loved the knives in the kit, all very sharp!! Very easy to cut the wood, sharpen the knives, cut some detail & make your project awesome but the gloves are TERRIBLE. I first bought this and carved for a few hours with delight! The next day I cut my finger so bad it wouldn’t stop bleeding. I learned my lesson and decided to wear the gloves, giving them a quick cut test to see how they worked. A few carving sessions later and I cut myself straight through the glove, no stabbing, a slice. This is the main thing it is meant to protect from and it went straight through the glove, and my palm. Buy real gloves and this kit is awesome!

Great kit, worthless glove
This is a great beginner’s set, but the gloves wouldn’t protect again a cheap plastic knife. Do yourself a favor–if you buy this set, go ahead and buy a higher-rated glove at the same time, so you can safely start whittling right away.
