    Snugpak

I am 6′ with a 35″ sleeve length, weighing in at 230 lbs. The length of the parka sleeves come right at my wrist. If I use the thumb holes my arm would have to be bent at the elbow. Maybe this is good, I can maintain downward tension on the parka in windy conditions. Other than the sleeve length everything else looks good so I’ve decided to keep it and test it out. I do agree, packing it back into the supplied stuff sack is a challenge. It can be done but if the bag were 10% larger it would be perfect.

    Demand the Best

Primary reason for choosing this product: Light Weight. For anyone who has been in the armed forces, you know the issued poncho is at least two pounds. With is product, cut that in half, as well as packing it in half the size. Add this to the Helikon-Tex Swagman Roll Poncho Liner, and the Snugpak SF Bivy; and you have the lightest three-season combo to keep you comfortable in a pinch. All three of these items can fit easily into an average size day pack that won’t weigh you down, but will keep you prepared for the worst of emergencies. Quality: Best Bang for Your Buck

    It works! 😀

Great poncho. Fits in the small pocket of my tactical bag. Has been used in many downpours and has kept me (and my bag) dry so far. It is lightweight and dries fairly quickly. I like that it can be taken off very quickly. It is very thin (which I like) it is a bit cold if you are wearing a t-shirt and it is below 40 degrees and raining (then again I am a Minnesotan and don’t believe in coats). Obviously there is room for a coat.To note if it is very windy and/or you are enduring a tropical downpour your legs will get soaked. If you are working in such an area where this is common I would recommend getting some sort of pants to go with this.

    Good.. not great.

Seems well made, haven’t used yet, but I’m sure it does the job.Only gripe:The arms are short.I’m 6ft 175 pounds, and when I use the thumb holes in the sleeve, my arms are bent. If I straighten my arms, it pulls down on the shoulders. It would be completely useless using the thumb holes while wearing a pack. I feel it’s not worth the price.Wouldn’t buy again.

good product, but a little heavy for backpacking

This is a great poncho, but I will say runs a bit heavy. So adds a bit too much weight to my pack. it served me very well on a recent trip. But it was dayhiking where weight was not a huge issue. I am still on the hunt for the perfect, but lightweight breathable poncho. This one is great quality, and kept me very dry. And is very comfortable.

    Great poncho but expensive!

I just ordered two of these ponchos. I am using them in bug out bags. They are lightweight and pack down incredibly small. The material sheds water very well. The poncho material is extremely thin. The bottom of the poncho can blow around in strong winds, but it is not too bad as the poncho is cut very long. The front closure/hand warming pockets are a nice touch. I could easily wear a large back pack under the poncho. The sleeves fit me, but they feel kind of snug if I place my hands through the thumb loops. I am only 5’11” and about 200 pounds. I don’t know how durable the material is so I can’t comment on that.

    sleeves too short

I’m 5’7″ and arms extended it’s about that long from finger tip to finger tip. With my arms fully extended in front of me and my thumbs in the loops this pulls tight and is too short. Maybe and inch longer it would be good enough. Two more inches and it would be as good as I want. Other than that it seems good. I’m in the middle of moving and couldn’t send it back, I need it now. I’ve contacted the US distributor and think their customer service is top notch. This specific unit runs a little short in the sleeve from the manufacturer’s tolerance range. I can see how that could be over looked in quality control. It’s going to get the job done and I’m keeping.Far better than the one I was issued while in the Army. I hope they issue something more like this now.

poncho is good, BEWARE OF SELLER

The poncho was a good quality poncho. It was not as enjoyable to wear as i had thought. the air flow isnt really much better than just getting an ultralight jacket and sil kilt for hiking in and the latter is much better for versatility. This poncho is also not as lightweight as i had hoped so the weight savings in my pack was not worth it. Good idea and right for some, just not me.NOW THE IMPORTANT PART!!!!! Please dont buy from this seller if its still ACME APPROVED. They are a 3rd party vender that takes 50 percent off the price when you return in. I literally opened the poncho and tried it on and decided it really wasn’t for me. It never left the safety of my man cave. bought the poncho for 48 bucks and got a 25 dollar return. I am a prime member so i got lucky in the fact that amazon hooked me up and covered the rest of the price of the item, but i can definitely say i wont purchase from ACME APPROVED ever again.

The best poncho found on Amazon so far

I searched for a poncho for a while and tried many different ones on Amazon. They claimed to be military grade and that you could use them for many different situation, like gathering water, build a temporary bivouac and so on.In reality, their quality was so bad that you could barely use them as a poncho. This Snugpak poncho is surely overpriced, but it seems having a better quality of all the other ponchos on Amazon. You can’t use it to build a bivouac, but it perfectly fulfill the main use as a poncho. The elastics at the end of the sleeves are useless. Unless you are a kid or have shorts arms, the sleeves are too short for an average man and the can’t use the elastics. The compression bag has a decent quality too. If you pat attention, you won’t break it. Usually, with other ponchos, you easily break the bag while trying to put the poncho back in.

Light, packs small, very large, covers a backpack, good insect block

Its hard to rate a poncho unless you specify the use. I gave it three stars based on the high price of other rain gear that I have. Its a little expensive for what it is, and it doesn’t look like the most durable poncho when on the move through a forest- trails are fine.I have spent lots of time in bad weather with ponchos and gortex type jackets. Time in the north woods, time on the water and time in the mountains. There are times when a poncho is better than a gortex type ultra light jacket. A poncho that covers a pack is a plus -Snugpack will.My experience is that ponchos without sleeves or open underarms breath much better when on the move. Snugpack not so much.Thick ponchos can be great windblockers and don’t blow around so much- Snugpack not so much.I prefer no sleeves for holding a rifle – Snugpack not so muchSnugpack will probability get a little warm in hot weather (dont want to sweat) for some, more ventelation would be nice.Very large and baggy, I would not want to engage in technical activities while wearing this light bag like material blowing around and getting in the way. What is it good for? Its very packable and lightweight.A+.Good for emergencys or waiting out short storms or light longterm rain.Good for light movement. Wish it breathed more.Good for fishing since it has sleeves.Good insect protection. Full coverage.Hey, that’s just my opinion based on about 10 rain garments I have for specific uses. I wanted to buy this to keep in a vehical and see what the big deal was. It certainly has its place. Should be about 10 bucks less for what it is.If you looking for heavy duty, super tough, heavy rain, better hood, cold weather, no sleeve poncho look at the Hazard 4 poncho. But its expensive and heavy. Probably the ultimate poncho but heavy.Or, a Swiss military surplus heavy duty ponch can be had for as low as $8-20. Great, But heavy and bulkyArmy surplus military ponch – about $25Have a few vinyl type ponchos from Target I keep in a canoe that were $15 bucks and were everything the Snugpack was minus the lightweight and packable attributes. For hunting on the move most ponchos are loud. However, lightest poncho I have ever tried.

Descrepincy in the advertised weight and the actual weight.

Got this for the Camino I’ll be walking in September 2022. It just arrived and the advertised weight of 360 grams/13oz is a bit off. The item I received weighed in at 421 grams. That weight is for both the poncho and the stuff sack. Not a deal breaker for me, but for those hikers out there that try and shave off every ounce I thought I’d let yall know.

Best way to keep you and your pack dry.

I’m a poncho fan because I think they are a smart way to keep your pack dry but most ponchos are poorly made. This one is exceptionally well-made, perfectly waterproof, and easy to put on quickly when you need to. They probably should have included grommets on the bottom though, so that one can attach ropes in order to secure it under high winds but I installed those myself and it stays tight in the highest winds. I definitely recommend some kind lap belt or rope if you get into high winds.

    Great poncho

If you are looking for a great poncho with sleeves, this is it. If you want it to be a poncho, a tent and other uses, this is probably not for you. It is head and shoulders above the three other hiking ponchos that I bought at a famous outdoor sports store. You can hike for hours in rain and still stay dry. Very good product.

    Keeps you dry

First off, I like this poncho. Nice big front pocket and the arm holes are great too. Also big enough to go over a back pack. I noticed today a very small “tear” but in a place that shouldn’t affect or compromise staying dry.

IF YOU TAKE YOUR EQUIPMENT SERIOUSLY…

Super product! I bow hunt elk in Colorado for two weeks every year. I’m often out for days on my own in the wilderness and I need to pick my equipment seriously for weight and performance. This product went through a BEATING and passed with flying colors. It rained for days up in the mountains. I was finally forced to retreat to base camp some 5 miles away. I mean it was miserable and I climbed through some serious terrain. I LOVE the design and material. It was light and flexible more akin to fabrics than pvc. I stayed dry standing and sitting. I went through dense horrible forests navigating through groves of fallen trees and it NEVER snagged or tore. On top of all that when it finally did stop raining, with a couple of shakes the water beaded right off and it was ready to pack away. Very impressive. If – “IF” I had to say anything negative about it – it would be that if your pack has a bedroll on top as mine did it will not fit over it. If and when you’re in this situation and have to put you pack over it (AND your pack weighs as much as mine – approx 70lbs) the waist belt will slide down placing more weight on your shoulders. Obviously this did not bother me enough to not give it 5 stars but after 5 miles of climbing over the backside of hell it does get to you a bit ;)Totally worth the money!

    Good for emergencies

It is durable and the pouch makes it compact. Just add a carabiner to put on your belt loop or backpack when it is the rainy season. Remember to air it out and hand wash/air dry it every once in a while so it doesn’t make it smell. It will get you through hard rain to a certain extent for a short time. Being 6ft+, it will not save you knees and below on hard rain. If you got long arms, thumb holes are worthless if you want to bend your arms. I’m guessing after too long it moisture gets through the seams which I guess you could seal if you want extra protection.

    Great easily packable poncho

Bought for standing in pouring rain for sporting events. Didn’t disappoint in the least. The only thing that got wet were my lower legs and I can handle that. The sleeves and thumb holes are an added bonus. Overall very pleased.

For nearly 60$, I expected better rain protection than the poncho provided. It’s comfortable & very compact. Protection is adequate even in heavy downpour but only for about 10-15 minutes.

Good kit dry, fits well, compresses small

Im not a huge fan of ponchos as since returning from OCONUS deployments i had been living in Fl, and even though it rained alot i usually just went on about my biz. Now im spending much more time in my remote property its quite a bit cooler. I have a snugpak rain jacket that is my go to wet weather kit, but it was in the truck which GF had taken to town so I dug this new poncho out and wore it in 35 degree pouring sleeting mess. As typical the end of my sleeves got wet but with the hood up (great fit over the wool hood of my anorak) my neck and shoulders never got wet other then minor incurrsion’s, neither did my “arse” when id take the occasion to sit down too take a cuppa. Funny enough in one of the old outbuildings on my property I found a very good USGI issued poncho a type id never seen before made from same goretex material as the ECW jackets from mid 90’s. It rained for 3 days straight turning from rain to snow and sleet, the second day i didnt feel like putting on the soggy Snugpak so I tried the USGI one out id say the snugpak was better for sure in fact after lunch i switched back to the patrol poncho. It also fit well over my camelbak assaulter pack, only compromising a little bit of the bottom end coverage. Im old and aarthritic now but im still going and i can see this is gonna be solid good kit im going to get one for my GF as well. It just plain sucks being cold and wet this is a great item to beat that ticket. Now if i can just find where i put my dang goretex trousers…

Not a great value for the price

For $60 I expected more of a real rain coat. It’s more like a high end almost disposable poncho. Body dimensions are good, sleeves are about 6″ or more too short. Construction feels like a vinyl but is actually more a very thin nylon coated with something that feels like vinyl. It would be a good emergency poncho, will probably last reasonably well but for the money I expected something more.

Packs small, yet completely covers me and my large backpack

Finally got a chance to try this poncho a couple weekends ago on a day hike. It started raining, and I pulled this poncho out quick and slipped it on over myself and my pack. Plenty of room! I like that the sleeves on this poncho are longer and also elastic cuffed, whereas other ponchos only have the half sleeves which still allow your forearms to get wet. The length of this poncho is great for someone my size (6’1″, 230lbs) even with a full pack on. I was covered from head to just above my knees, and the expanded backside hangs just a bit lower but not in my way where I would trip on it.One recommendation though… before you take this poncho into the field, open it at home first and “prepare” it. The plastic material may not be fully “cured” yet, so it tends to stick to itself from the factory. Extra drying time before balling it up and putting it in its compression sack would probably cure that, but we as consumers can’t control it. So, take this poncho out at home and go through it carefully to fully separate it apart where it has stuck together. It won’t tear (don’t be rough with it, of course) but still take your time. I guarantee you don’t want to break this out in the field without doing this step first, or you’ll spend 2 minutes trying to get it on right. Once it’s prepped, it will slip on in seconds and not re-stick to itself.Folds up and then rolls up to easily fit back in the included compression sack. Best piece of lightweight rain gear I own, and if there’s even a chance of rain on a backpack trip, this comes with me.Not recommended to leave in a car or hot environment during the summer. The material is relatively thin and I would expect that it would age after a couple years of heat exposure. Keep it in a climate controlled environment when not needed, and get years of use out of this poncho. A tad bit pricey for just a poncho, but the design is worth it to me.

    Dry in a downpour

I’ve had a chance to wander around my yard in a couple of downpours and so far so good. The water beads well off the fabric. The hood is huge and very deep but has no built in visor. So far that hasn’t been a problem at all. It hangs far enough in front of my face to keep my glasses dry and prevent water from running down my neck but hasn’t become “floppy”. Time will tell if this will continue but wearing a baseball cap would fix that problem too.It reaches to my knees (I’m 72″ tall) so with a pair of rain gaiters or maybe chaps you should be waterproof from head to toe. The thumb holes in the sleeves are nice, especially for hiking since that keeps them from riding up your arms. They’re some kind of elastic though and they dry much slower than the rest of the poncho so don’t accidentally store it wet.I don’t think this will work well in hot weather but then I don’t generally care if I get wet. It fits easily over my 60L pack. I wouldn’t want to try it but I believe that with a garbage bag for my feet and legs and this poncho for my upper it would serve OK as an emergency bivy. It’s definitely long enough I can sit down and pull my knees inside to wait out a particularly nasty storm. The bottom edge stays put even though there’s no drawstring or other attachment around the waist. I had another similar jacket/poncho that had a tab/loop that went between the legs to keep the bottom edge from flapping. So far this doesn’t seem to need it but I may add one later. The stuff sack is kind of small and I can never seem to roll the poncho short or fat enough to fit back into it well. That’s really my only gripe. Well, that and I should have probably gone with a brighter color.

    Great quality, compresses very well

Took this thing on an overnight hiking trip and got caught in a thunderstorm on the way back. Kept me and my pack completely dry and warm. I’m 5’10” and the neck area is a little tight, but not uncomfortable enough that I wouldn’t wear it. It compresses easily into the small bag that’s provided. The product description doesn’t really do justice to how much this thing compresses. It comes with a small 8.5″ tall and 4″ wide pouch with a strap on the bottom and a little attachment loop at the top. A normal 32oz Nalgene bottle fits nicely in the bag with no problems, to give an idea of the size of it. The entire poncho will easily roll up and fit into that little bag, which you can then either throw in your pack or attach it using a carabiner, some paracord, or any other attachment option to the outside of your pack. Since it’s the size of a Nalgene bottle, if you’re worried about how to carry this just grab a water bottle and throw it on or around your pack to see how it will fit. The poncho could probably compress into a smaller bag without problems. The downside to this is the fact it has sleeves and how thin it is. While durable, I can see this tearing really easily if it got snagged. During the hiking trip I was constantly worried about it snagging on a limb or bush or something. If you’re the type of person who wants to use a poncho for something other than rain protection for your person and pack, I would skip out on this item and buy a normal GI-style poncho which has more uses. If you only plan to use this as raingear, then I highly recommend it due to the quality of the waterproofing, light weight and small carry size.

About as good a poncho as there is…

I really love the poncho, and would have given it 5 stars except that it has no grommets for setting up as an emergency shelter. The roominess is more than ample (I’m 5’11”, 220) and it feels very big on me. More than enough room to cover a day pack or a weekender. Don’t own a full size pack so I can’t comment on that, but I think it’d work. Hood is roomy, no trouble fitting over your head if you remember to unzip it! Sides are closed and has sleeves (which I think could be 1-2″ longer) which is not your typical poncho cut, but if you need to stay dry in a storm this is all you’ll need. Ultra light weight, it’s like wearing nothing at all. And the stuff sack it comes in is handy when you want to pack it to go. A winner, and I’d buy it again.

Real Arm Sleeves are a Game Changer

I went yakpacking without my paddling jacket and (of course) it got unexpectedly windy and cold. This kept paddle drips from soaking me and the sleeves meant that it wasn’t flapping up off my arms with every wind gust. Like other military ponchos, it also can be worn over a medium size backpack. I paired it with the sleeved liner and it makes a really warm and dry combo that still breathes well- great design!

    A nice backup

Another very well made product from snugpak. Light weight and the material feels strong. All the seams are taped. I’m only 5’5″, so the body of the poncho is huge on me, the back of the poncho almost touches the floor. The sleeves length is right, enough room in the hood. The zipper lever is small, so if you are wearing gloves it is going to be a pain to pull. My stuff sack came with the tag sewn on the outside and part of the logo print was not smooth.Overall, i like it and the price is good and you can get a liner for it. A lot of their items are still made in the UK but more items are ending up in China.

    Goes the Distance

This poncho is like all ponchos, it will keep the rain off but it will also make you sweat. However, I purchased the Snugpak because it offers protection the full length of the arms. It also has thumb holes to help keep those arms covered. Sungpaks are made tough and to last. Highly recommend this rain gear.

bought for 6 days on Foothills trail in SC/NC

Actually, I never had to put it on while on a 5 night hike on the Foothills trail through the Blue Ridge. But, I did put it on at home over my fully filled backpack (it had 42 pounds of stuff in it). I am not a tall guy, 5’8″ and average weight for my height, and the front of the poncho went to about my hips and the back of it went to about the back of my knees. I assumed, based on other reviews I’d read from tall guys, that it would cover more of my legs. However, I just went ahead then and bought some lightweight rain pants, so that if I encountered a downpour I’d be fully covered. The other features of the poncho seemed great, and I am confident that should I have needed it on my hike, I and my pack would have stayed nice and dry underneath it.

Excellent rainwear for travel. My wife and I use these ponchos all the time when traveling in Florida and visiting theme parks. They’re light weight and offer pretty comprehensive rain protection. The biggest plus of the poncho is that it can cover your backpack and you easily, keeping everything dry that you want. The poncho is warm like any other raingear, but to me it ventilates well when moving and is usable even in very hot, humid, and rainy weather like Florida. Would recommend.

    Pleasantly Suprised!

Every rain poncho I’ve ever owned was a piece of junk. This one, however has really put a smile on my face. I am a big guy, over 300lbs and broad shouldered. I wear a pretty big 5.11 brand backpack every day to work. Well, it’s been raining cats and dogs here in the Northeastern US lately so I got to use this poncho for the first time. It easily covered me, backpack and all! PLENTY of room. The back is extra long to compensate for folks using a backpack. Without the backpack the back end hangs long but doesn’t come close to touching the ground. The material is just great. Light yet durable. Has arms (with thumb loops)and a big chest pocket with a velcro closer. You can slip your hands inside a pouch behind the pocket too. I can see this poncho being used as a shelter too if you had to. To top it all off, you can fold/roll this thing up into a nice little bag that it comes with (same material). It is a rare thing to see something cool online that actually doesn’t disapoint when it arrives.

Pretty much does everything I wanted

Its waterproof, it has arms, it covers a pack.Pretty much does everything I wanted, I will say being a 200+ pound guy thats 6 foot tall, it can be a bit tight with a large backpack on underneath it, and the arms are about 1.5 inches too short. Its still way better at keeping me and my pack dry than a standard US military poncho tho, and seems to pack up quite a bit smaller as well. The better coverage of sides/arms does come at the cost of multi-function tho, as you cannot turn this into a shelter like you can with a military poncho.

Best for my needs of all the ponchos I have purchased.

Good product in that it fills my needs. Light weight but seems like it will stand up to some use. I purchased this for emergency rain protection on hikes so did not want to over do it on weight. This is not the sort of poncho that will also serve as a tarp or ground sheet and cannot be spread out flat. But it does cover you to the knees with no open side seam to allow water entry as well as having sleeves to protect your arms. So with this and a pair of high gaiters I have full coverage with out having to deal with rain pants.

No suitable for heavy rain or over a 50 to 65 ltr pack.

This is not waterproof, shower resistant maybe. The poncho when fitted over a 50-65 ltr pack is too short at the back and too long at the front. Sleeves are too short, the zip needs to come up to the base of the hood, the hood needs a peak to keep rain away (worked well when wearing a cap).Needs straps to prevent wind blowing the poncho over the top of the pack.On the plus side it is light and packs up small.

Very roomy and covers me and my backpack well.

Very nice rain poncho. Quite roomy and well designed. I’m 5’10” and 230 lbs. With a very stocky build, this poncho has good coverage even when wearing my Maxpedition Falcon 2 which is also maxed out with bottle holders on each side, a 10 liter dry bag strapped to the bottom and a 5 liter dry bag strapped to the top also have Maxpedition M-4 pouches on each side on a modified waist belt, the poncho covers me and all that well. The sleeves are ample and have thumb holes to keep them from sliding up your arms. The hood has a drawstring with slide barrel locks on each side, the back of the hood has a hook and loop adjusting strap. The front of the poncho just below the face opening is zippered and gusseted I imagine to regulate breathability of the garment and to facilitate access to a breast pocket. There is also a large map or cargo pocket on the front of the poncho in the chest area that has a hook and loop flap closure and a pass thru tunnel behind it. The only thing left is a good test in a downpour, I will put it to the test this spring and update this review with my findings . I’m confident it will shed rain as well as most other ponchos of similar class.

    Well Worth the Price!!

This thing is GREAT!! It keeps me and my Osprey Aether 85 pack (stuffed full) completely dry. I’ve worn this in both light and heavy rain. It is a tad bit tricky to put on in the wind because of the size, but what the hell? The sleeves have thumb-holes which help keep the elastic cuffs down, and there are two pouches in the front. A big one which you can close with velcro, and on each side of that there are holes to put your hands in behind that main velcro-front pouch. It doesn’t completely cover my legs (I am 6′ tall, and have a 32″ inseam), but with waterproof boots and gators to protect my legs from scratching anyway, or with a good pair of hiking pants, it is not a problem (it’s a poncho anyway, if it completely covered my legs I wouldn’t want it). The hood also has a drawstring, which is a bonus! I haven’t needed any new backpacking gear lately, but if/when I do I am going to check out the Snugpak brand. If everything else works as good as this, I’m in!!

I think this is a great product – especially for the price

I think this is a great product – especially for the price. I am planning a trip on the Camino de Santiago in early Spring and I needed a lightweight waterproof (not water resistant!) poncho. I road tested in this week in the pouring rain with winds raging by the ocean and it was extremely easy to put on over my backpack. I really like the thumb loops and sleeves – they kept my arms dry while my friend (with her much more expensive poncho) had to put elastic hair bands around her wrists to keep the rain out.My friend also had pocket envy when she saw the very large pocket on the front of my poncho that closes nice and tight with good velcro. The only thing that would be a drawback on this poncho is that there is no waste band or velcro to connect underneath so the poncho doesn’t fly up in the wind. I’m fixing this by having a small piece of velcro sewn on this spot.

    Perfect.

This thing keeps the rain and wind outside of itself, is made of strong, but lightweight material, and spreads out to about the size of a queen size bed surface. It’s massive. I have purchased two so far, and gave them away to people in wheelchairs during downpours. So I need to get another one. : )To Snugpack, I would like the shoulders/armpits and neckline to be looser. Movements can be restricted in these areas while performing certain tasks. Otherwise, you nailed it.

    uncomfortable

I don’t understand why they do it with short sleeves..it’s very uncomfortable…if there was still a hole on the sides for ventilation it would be better..the hood is very large and uncomfortable

    Some shortcomings

Poncho is as advertised. Sleeves are not long enough for me…need to be at least 2” longer…right now they sit short of my wrist by almost an inch. I think most ponchos are that way, however…if you’re gonna have sleeves then make em long enough. Also…the velcro pocket…the poncho weighs nothing and combined with the strong velcro it makes opening that pocket difficult. The pocket needs a zipper and 2 drain holes at the bottom IMO.

    Folds up easy

One goes fishing once or twice every week all year long and after using other types of ponchos that are always so flimsy and cheap and do not live up to what they are advertised to be, one can finely say they have found a poncho that does live up to what it is suppose to do, keep one dry and it folds back up easily to be put back into it’s carrying bag. smile!

FINALLY a Backpacking Poncho That Isn’t Awful!

LOVE this poncho. I had a Sea to Summit that snapped up along either side. All it ever did was keep unsnapping and I’d end up soaked. This one however is more akin to a single layer waterproof shell jacket. It’s super lightweight and packs up quite small. I’m a big guy (6ft, 280lbs) and it fits over me with a 85L backpack no problem. It covers just past the bottom of the pack in the back and down past my mid thigh in the front. You MAY want to consider waterproof shell pants but it just depends on what you’re willing to pack. Waterproofing is excellent and the big pocket in the front is an excellent touch. Long story short, this is my new favorite hiking poncho.

Can cover my 60l pack with ZSol on top

I picked this up to replace a lighter poncho tarp I had that didn’t give enough coverage with my pack on. This one fits over my Granite Gear Vapor Trail 60l pack with a ZSol full length pad strapped on top. Mine weighs 372g. That’s 100g more than my old one but it’s better built. Seams are tapped and sealed. The pocket is well built. I like the full sleeves though they are tight with a pack on. The stitched sides are better for keeping rain out in windy storms. The weight is fine considering I’m replacing a jacket and pack cover with it. It’s also better at keeping my pack dry because water can’t go down between me and my pack.

    The perfect poncho – yes!

I jog / scoot almost three miles a day between home, bus and van pool points. An umbrella was not cutting the mustard :)I got this poncho the day before a two-week cycle of unremitting rain and storms started. (Floods! Wettest April on record!) I put my briefcase across my body under the poncho, stuck my hands out the sleeves, put my bus pass in the chest pocket, tightened the hood to degree needed and off I went EVERY SINGLE DAY, no problem with either scooting or jogging or sitting. The poncho body is actually a very full smock so there is full freedom of movement without the ends whipping up like laundry. All in all a remarkable ten-star garment, especially if you are trying to minimize your use of automobiles in an urban situation.December 2012: Still love this poncho — I carry it with me where ever I go, just in case! Wonderful protection from both rain AND wind!

    Will keep you dry

I’m over 6’5” tall so the sleeves only cover half of my forearm, it would be nice if they were longer but it doesn’t dampen my enthusiasm for it. No wind blowing in the sides plenty of overall length. Perfect for rainy game days.

Zipper on neck is good, but full front open design is more practical for my activities

Like having a front map pocket and place for your hands

I bought this for an 8 day hiking trip coming up. I’ve only tried it on and walked around some. My backpack easily fits under this which is why I got it.Unlike most ponchos, this one has defined sleeves which are nice and make it a little more form-fitting. I like the front gear/map pocket and the opening for your hands. Will keep my hands dry which most ponchos don’t do. It appears to be well enough made. I’ll know more later regarding whether it will hold up under daily use. Happy with my purchase though.

    Improvement on the Traditional Poncho

Lighter and more compact than a USGI poncho. Doesn’t have grommets on corners, and doesn’t lay out flat, so not as versatile for shelter construction. But for actually wearing in the rain, or bringing along in your pack, it’s clearly superior. I carry a four-foot piece of paracord in the pouch/pocket to use as a belt, cinching the poncho tighter in the wind. In hot, humid rain, just use it as is.

    Short sleeves

I really love everything about this product except the short sleeves. The elastic for the wrists is half way up my forearms.Shame you cannot order a custom one. If you can let me know how!

Five stars, but sleeves are a little short.

This is a great poncho, there are no questions about that. Lite (400 grams); compact (rolling into the pack size of a soda can); perfectly waterproof; very nice clean natural olive color; and the most important — GREAT DESIGN: it is not open on the sides, so it protects your whole body (especially critical under windy conditions). The only disappointment is: sleeves are 2 inches shorter than they should be (and I am even very tall, 5″11″). It is sad that so great product has this little thing immediately making annoying inconvenience — it limits movements if I use a thumb loop (which is a nice addition itself). Nevertheless, it is highly recommended.

    awesome

I made the order and decided last minute that I want to return it. The seller said that it was already on the way and I can request a return as soon as I get it. After I received the poncho and trying it out, I think I’ll keep it lol. Very good quality

    Those arms

I so wanted to love this, but as others have mentioned, the arms are just too short. I have “normal” length arms, but ended up with 2 to 3 inches of exposed skin, and using the thumb-holes in the arms resulted in the poncho getting tight across the shoulders. It is light weight, and will keep you warm and dry in a cold rain, but not perfect.
