Great quality, low cost – Get this kuksa!
The media could not be loaded.
I had been wanting a kuksa for my gear loadout for some time, but wasn’t really sure about which one to get or from where. There are a lot of options, not all are great, but this one is a solid balance between quality and cost. Some of the high-end artisan ones are just a bit more than I want to spend right now, but I wanted a certain aesthetic and quality for cheap and this was a win/win. It has a really nice look and feel that is very appealing. I posted a couple pics of it on Instagram and friends were asking where they could get one, too. These would make PERFECT gifts for the outdoorsy person on your list.

Sturdy, few flaws, customizable
Cons;-It’s a little thin to one side, not dangerously so, but not uniform.-A couple of sharp edges-The wood was thirsty. I don’t mean for tea either. It needed some oil right out of the box. (Not necessarily a bad thing)-It’s a little smaller than you’d think.Pros;-The wood was thirsty. This gave me freedom to oil/foodsafe finish how I wanted.-It’s sturdy. I decided to be a potato after unboxing and scorch it darker with a torch. (This despite specific warnings to avoid extreme heat.) It held up, though I recommend against doing what I did.-Just plain does what it’s supposed to: Doesn’t leak, doesn’t break when dropped, holds up to hot water, etc.All-in-all, a good product, just a couple of literal rough edges. Would recommend to a friend.

Not for backpacking
This is a beautifully crafted chunk of wood. However there is nothing lightweight about it… not even in the neighborhood. I was hoping to pick up a cup for backpacking that would keep warm liquids warm for a while (titanium thin wall cups give you cold coffee in minutes)… I was willing to accept the increased weight but couldn’t immediately find details on its actual weight. I’m not an ounce counter but I do spent money to drop them for overnight and multi night backpacking trips. I ended up throwing this into the car-camping bin because no one in their right mind would lug this thing around in a backpack. Not unless you’re doing a 2-3 mile flat nature loop… ?Anyhow it’s very pretty and functional but not for backpacking. I ended up buying the GSI insulated plastic cup. It’s nice and very light.

Size does matter vs cost
Well made, looks great but the size vs the cost isn’t worth it to me. Yes, I do like it, yes, I will keep it and yes, I will use it, but, buy the bigger size if you’re going to. It does cost more, naturally, and still won’t be worth it but it’ll be bigger. Plus, a one time purchase (for the bigger one), go for it!

Well made cup with a great handle
I bought this cup after looking at several others with the traditional handle. I really like this one the handle give great support, the wall thickness of the cup should help it last a long time. I did notice if I left water in it overnight and then tasted it the next day I could detect a faint hint of something probably linseed oil used to preserve the wood. Not unpleasant and I’m sure it will dissipate. Well crafted and worth the cost.

Good-looking cup
Update, contacted company and they are sending out a new cup. Hope the new one doesn’t leak.Cup is nice looking, and works great for cold drinks. Information says it’s ready to go for hot and cold drinks, hot drinks not so much. From previous experience with handmade cups, I know not to put boiling water in them. I made some coffee and put in this cup because that was the original intention that I bought the cup for coffee. At the house I tested it I waited till the coffee was down to 152 degrees and pour it in my cup and in three spots it was weeping thru. I still don’t mind the cup I just wish the advertisement was correct.

“12oz” is more like 10
Poured exactly 12oz in with my jigger. It just barely held on with the water tension, but the cup is certainly not 12oz size. More realistically 10oz as 11 comes just below the rim.

GOOD naturalistic wood cup!
I quite like this naturalistic cup. I washed it, oiled it up (olive oil), and used it right out of the box. It is light and seems to be pretty durable hard wood. My only complaint is it is a tad on the small size and a little expensive. If it held 1-2 more oz. of liquid and was about $4 cheaper this would have got 5 stars out of me for sure. Either way, if you are on the fence and attracted to the look of this cup you should buy it. You won’t be disappointed.

Nicely made cups, but FAR short of claimed capacity.
I own both sizes of cups, and they’re quite nice overall. They certainly have a rustic appeal to them, but the big issue is one of capacity. The 12 oz model can barely hold 8.5 ounces of room temp water without risking spillage, while the 8 oz cup is good for about 6.7 ounces. But if you fill these cups to those levels, be prepared to spill some of that liquid on yourself.I don’t think the capacity is the problem, but rather the claim that the larger is a “12 ounce” model. Its actual capacity falls well below those claims, at (less than) 8.5 (usable) ounces it’s only 71% of what it should be. The 8 ounce model isn’t quite as egregious an offender. so (less than) 6.71 (usable) ounces means 84% of its claimed capacity, so not terrible. The descriptions at the top are also messed up at the Time of this writing. The 8 ounce claim of “700 milliliters” of capacity would equal about 24 ounces (obviously wrong). Its listed dimensions are close enough. Its listed weight of “.34” pounds is reasonably close for a “hand made” product (mine came in at 6.4 ounces, or “.4 pounds”. The 12 ounce cup claims a weight of 2 ounces, which it most definitely is not. Mine weighs 8.67 ounces. And of course its claimed capacity of 12 ounces is a complete exaggeration. If I promised 12 but could only deliver 8.5, I wouldn’t be able to keep my job.So that’s it. Putting aside the fact that there are “knockoff” cups that look exactly the same but for about half the cost here on Amazon itself, these cups are still worth keeping as long as you get them with a clear understanding of the actual capacity. It begs the question though, are these cups so popular that a lot of companies are making knockoff cups for half the price, or instead are these cups being resold with a significant markup?** UPDATESo I bought a “knockoff” version of the 8 ounce cup at half the cost. The packaging was IDENTICAL to the Uberleben 8 ounce cup. The only different was that the generic cup did not come with any branding (No large “Uberleben” tag, no brand on the bottom of the cup). Having said that, my Uberleben 12 ounce cup developed a crack on the wood with very little use, and contacting them they did not hesitate to send out a replacement. So basically the premium you are paying for the name is that they will fully support the item despite the product’s origins.

Kinda magical?
To start with, these are in fact made in China. It is in very tiny print by the UPC label. The only one of all in this “series” whose origin remains questionable, is the stainless steel pot. It doesn’t say “Made in China” anywhere that I could find, but, nor did it say, “Made in USA”. I would have really preferred this cup be made in the US (or Canada), or some country with labor laws, BUT this is a REALLY nice cup. There is nothing cheap about it. It would make a great and thoughtful gift. It is light to carry, the finish is fine, it feels great in one’s hands, and although I can’t explain how or why, stuff seems to taste better from it. I don’t know if it’s some sort of primal throw back, but it feels like it belongs in a hand. It feels good as your lips meet the wood. It’s satisfying. I have it hanging on one of the kitchen cabinet pulls because it has a neat little leather lanyard thing on it and it looks good. So, I truly do love my wooden mug no matter where it came from. And I mentally thank the Chinese person who made it.

Hairline crack on Kuksa — Customer support remedied — Second Kuksa leaks!!!
Initial review was a 1 : Super disappointed was really looking forward to this…Was really looking forward to these as they are the most reasonable cost compared to going to a source and paying $100+ ….The manufacturer has terrible QC.Updated review : I contacted customer support and they were outstanding. They requested my Amazon shipping number and an address and within 3 days I had a new one that is just fine.A second update: I received the new Kuksa. Filled with water and well as you can see it too leaks. VERY disappointed. I sent pics to customer service and requested they keep their product. They receive two stars only because customer support was very friendly. QC and product itself needs work!

Love it, but need some work.
So far, so good. The cup itself is well made but a little on the rough side. No chips or cracks. It looks like oak but is a foreign fine grained hardwood. About what I expected for the price. Decent quality but not really finished. Mine holds about 7 drinkable ounces. 8 ounces filled to the brim.First thing I did was remove the cheap hard leather thong. I may replace it if needed, with a soft leather thong. The finger holes were really rough inside and with sharp edges. I used a knife to chamfer the sharp edges. Then I used 320 sandpaper and smoothed the inside of the holes, the inside of the cup and just a little on the outside to break all the sharp edges. Then I used the oven method to seal with oil. bring your oven to 175 degrees, Warm up the cup for 3 minutes, wipe the cup with a heavy coat of Food grade mineral oil. then put back in the oven for 3 minutes again. Then take a paper towel and wipe off as much oil as possible. The rest of the oil will soak in as the cup cools. Retreat every few months as needed. The mineral oil is what id used on cutting boards and will not go rancid like the vegetable oils can.You get a beautiful wooden cup that will last a lifetime if you take care of it.

With a little sanding, I made my cup(s) perfect!
I love these mugs! One slight suggestion: all the edges of the cup I bought (I got two😋) appear to have been sanded down, except for the finger holes. The finger holes are most likely the greatest contact point of skin to wood on these. To me that makes the fact my finger holes not being sanded was a flaw, or concern to fix. Out of the box both mugs seemed a bit sharp and uncomfortable to hold. But, unlike ceramic or steel / plastic. The solution was easy!😍Solution: Just a few minutes of detail hand powered sanding with a piece of fine sandpaper and subsequent oil on the sanded areas did the job perfect. I wish I had taken a before/ after pick🤦♂️My picture may not be of much assistance to the customer but possibly überlen or the detail-oriented eye can spot the sanding around the finger holes. All in all, I am very happy with these mugs. I enjoyed the time sanding the cup, as I was more engaged with the craftsmanship. A wooden mug will require more maintenance when used regularly compared to other steel/plastic/etc. mugs, but the feel and design of these are far superior to me. I love wooden utensils and kitchenware, so the maintenance aspect isn’t as big of an issue. If the internet and amazon.com is still around in a few years, I’ll update this review.

Almost perfect
The 12oz size is kind of misleading because this is what 8oz of water looks like in the cup. But it’s well made, good quality, comfortable to hold. Give it a light wash with gentle soap and then rub it down with oil.

Cool look
I got one of these and it cracked after two uses. I didn’t put anything super hot it. I did send it back and got a refund. It’s super cool looking but probably wouldn’t take it backpacking it is fairly fragile. I’ve been using coconut oil in it to protect and treat it. It’s darkens it a little over time but that is expected and it looks great.

When I first got it, it smells nice, “wood” and it is fairly small, “holds about 8oz cup” full. The leather strap broke, due to a manufacturing oopsie, but i replaced it with a new one, In all it is very sturdy, and it does not leak.

This is a nice cup, it looks cute and feels nice in the hand. Two things I did not like so much:1. The cup holds only 6oz not 8.2. It has some sort of coating. I notices a tiny hair glued to the inside of the cup. Also, after I washed the cup with a sponge, the sponge left a layer of something sticky on the other things I was washing with it. I had to throw the sponge away. The reason I chose this cup over similar much cheaper cups on amazon is that the photograph makes it look like raw wood with nothing else. The sticky layer was very disappointing. If I knew about it I would have definitely picked another cup for half the price.

I really love this cup extremely well-made holds around 6 ounces and really lightweight great for backpacking or camping the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because of the carabiner clip it comes with is extremely cheap and flimsy won’t even stay closed which isn’t a real big deal and can always put a better one on just hate to see something so cheap on such a nice product

Stylish and Functional
We went to Norway last summer and regretfully returned without getting a set. When I noticed them online, I wondered if the quality was the same…. They are better! The workmanship is a perfect blend of modern quality with an old world feel. The wood is very solid, light weight, and insulates whatever we’re drinking. Although they do not collapse and tuck away like other camping gear, they are worth the space they consume in (or on) our bags. I was very pleased with the purchase and would obviously recommend them to others.

Wood
A durable cup that I bought to go in my lunch bag. I would suggest treating it with some food grade mineral oil before using. I suspect the wood will darken and change with more use and that is a good thing to me. I’ve used it mainly for hot tea and coffee and it hasn’t leaked or developed cracks.

This cup is cool looking!
It’s so beautiful and I love it! So mine came intact (no thin spots, no chips, etc), smooth (like one “rough” patch) and it feels like I can start drinking from it straight away.. I will probably treat it with olive oil like others have for longevity, but it’s probably not necessary for the cup I received. It is smaller than you think, however, how big of a cup do you need in the wild? Not very. Fits well in the hand and I can’t wait to try it out this summer!

Leather tie failed, lost cup on trail
This product is fantastic. So lightweight and great for backpacking. The only problem is my son attached his cup to his backpack using the provided leather strap on a 26-mile trip and the leather strap came untied and he lost it somewhere along the way. We never thought it wouldn’t hold. Sad to have lost such great gear. Wish they had a better/more durable step to attach it to the backpack.

Two strangers complemented me on this
Wore this on my belt for eleven days backpacking in Isle Royale National Park. Could I have brought any plastic cup sitting in my house? Yes. Would it have been lighter? Yes. Would it have fit more fluid, been easier to clean, and been less pretentious? Yes to all. But you must understand that sometimes the outdoors is about the beauty, the aesthetics, the experience. That is why I spent twenty five dollars on a wooden cup, and that is why I will treasure my kuksa for the rest of my days.

Amazing Cup !
This cup is almost perfect ! As a woodsman and carpenter I absolutely love the fact that it’s carved wood. I’ve taken it out on a hiking trip and used it while working in the back yard and will be taking it camping with me in a week. I should mention that I will take it wherever I can. Almost perfect comes from the fact that I wish it was just a touch deeper but really…..I am not gonna ding it for that. I will have this cup in use for years to come ! Getcha one or two, I certainly will be ordering another.

Get them.

First off… I’m obsessed. My boyfriend and I are avid outdoors people. We always try to go with companies that are smaller when purchasing. We originally came across these with this company on Instagram. And knew we HAD to have them. I ordered two 8oz and one 12oz and one 12 oz of the other style… as soon as I got them I washed and treated them with linseed oil. They’re wood… if you don’t take care of them they’re obviously going to crack. my boyfriend has large hands and the holes to hold the cup are still a perfect fit. Which is something I was originally concerned about. 10/10 will purchase again. We’re really looking forward to taking these ice fishing and camping all summer!

cool, but not as nice as the pictures
This is a really interesting cup. It’s almost surprisingly light, and the handle is really comfortable. However, it doesn’t get 5 stars because the one I received was nowhere near as nicely sanded and finished as the ones in the other customer images. Nothing you’d get a splinter off of, but there is a rough spot right where I want to sip from the cup, and pretty deep swirl marks inside the bowl that are obviously from a power tool. There’s also a black mark in the bottom of the bowl that I haven’t been able to scrub off yet, and the finish is very uneven. Nothing I can’t fix with some sandpaper and oil, but -1 star because I have to. The cynic in me suspects that this might be because I didn’t receive it at “low or no cost in exchange for my honest review”, but it might have just been bad luck.Edit: I forgot to take pictures before I washed it, so the black mark is after scrubbing as well as I could with a plastic scrubbing pad. I think sandpaper will get the rest of it.

Great cup I have been using this now for about …
Great cup I have been using this now for about two weeks straight now mostly for coffee at work I take my big thermos for my night shift. I use the carabiner and just hook it to the handle and go, Some folks say that it’s small but I have had no issues to me it’s the right size. The only thing I did was give it a longer leather lanyard and double knotted the end, I will also put a more heavy duty carabiner on it. As I said above I have been using the Dursten Wood cup for a couple of weeks and coated it with some sesame seed oil it is wood but the cup works great. I love to backpack and being outdoors so the cup has be a great add to my bushcraft kit. The wooden mug also feels great when holding it perfect feel in the hand. This would made a great personal gift for the anyone. In closing it is wood so read the care card and this cup will last a very long time.

I really like this cup. The design is distinguish and the cup will get attention from others around you for that matter. Beside that, then I’m more into wood then plastic and I love the texture and the handling of this cup. The only problem I have is that I don’t utilize it as much I would like to. Hopefully that will change in few weeks when the hunting season will start where I can put this cup into better use. Just be sure that you do not machine wash it, if you do that it will last.

Sometimes it’s cool to have something similar to the old ways.
Sometimes it’s cool to have something similar to the old ways. I like this cup. It’s not a full cup but close. It doesn’t hold heat like porcelain. It can staying if not cleaned but this isn’t rocket science, it’s a wood cup.In a word; it’s campy. The handle has sharp edges around the holes where your fingers go so take some hundred grit sandpaper and soften the edge. (It’s wood)Giving it one wipe with olive oil is not going to cure the cup. You have to use many applications in the beginning. Think of it is a starter kit cup. Sand it and customize it the way you like then season it multiple times. At least 7 time minimum. Believe me you won’t be sorry.Bottom line: I really enjoy drinking coffee in this little cup and yes I think it’s worth it.
